Toyota Starlet EP91 Rear brakes

Trouble Reversing

Tried to reverse out of the garage when for some reason the wheel locked up on th e left side, rear.

It is a quick job removing the drum to check what the issue might be.

What i found inside was not very good..

No pad present.

Brake shoe pad completely fallen if due to rust jacking.

Failed brake pad.

Setting up

Car is not safe to drive, parked it until new parts arrive.

After a week or so, new brake shoes and repair kit can now be installed.

No need to back off the pads, my drums did not have a lip that could grab the shoes. In case it is, pull back tab from 47643A/47644A
So that the girlig teeth are free, then use flat screw driver to turn the screw 47061/47062

Installation

Rebuild kit

New brake shoes.

I put both rear wheels in the air in order to be abvle to check hand brake balnce after installation.

The new shoes are cleaned and sandpaper is used to create cross hatching and removal of sharp edges.

Pretty straight forward installation, just do one side at a time so not to get lost in how it is assembled.

New shoes prepped.

All assembled.

Final

Was there any need of replacing them?
-The wheel locked up, so, yes..
